Dear friends and partners,
I am so grateful for the opportunity to share about two of the most dedicated and supportive organizations we are partnered with: The Ford Family Foundation and the Oregon Community Foundation.
Shortly after our organization was established in response to the 2020 wildfires, and while many of us were still finding our footing and concentrating on rebuilding, the Ford Family Foundation and the Oregon Community Foundation recognized our efforts and awarded us our initial wildfire recovery grants. As our work progressed and the community rebuilding was in full swing, we undertook the reconstruction of three homes, along with their wells, septic systems, and electrical utilities. Furthermore, we offered gap funding to many wildfire survivors to help cover insurance shortfalls, cleared away numerous damaged trees to enhance the safety and security of their properties, and delivered both family and individual assistance to meet a range of unmet needs.
While “in the swirl and thick of recovery,” we faced numerous difficulties securing the necessary financial resources to meet our expenses. In response, our organization was 100% volunteer, including myself. We donated our time to ensure that we were well insured, our accounting was in good order, our contractors were compensated, and the needs of survivors were addressed. Once again, the Ford Family and the Oregon Community Foundation stepped in to provide additional funding for a part-time Executive Director and Disaster Coordinator and to aid in continuing our work as an organization that now responds to all phases of an emergency or disaster.
Friends, it is partners like these who play a crucial role in building strong foundations and allowing us to maintain our emergency and disaster response capabilities at a constant state of readiness.
